Shaping a Story in Clay

Pottery first found me in high school, in the same way it found my big brother, Michael. We were both taught by the same teacher, and felt how throwing clay can be more than making a nice mug. It became a quiet, grounding conversation between your hands, earth, and yourself.

Over the years, life pulled us away from the wheel. After some time establishing a home in New York, Michael eventually rediscovered pottery at BKLYN Clay – falling right back into a craft that fed his soul. We dreamed of throwing clay together again, which mostly consisted of Michael pestering me  (lovingly) to come and use his day pass. But before that could happen, he passed away unexpectedly at 37 years old on April 2024.

Now, I return to the wheel not just for myself, but for both of us. Each piece I make is a step in my own healing, a way to feel close to him, a way to feel close to others, and a reminder that pottery (like life) is a practice of being present, letting go, and embracing imperfection.

Winged Earthworks uses ceramics to focus on its biggest benefits: connection, mental health, and the simple beauty of making something with your hands. My hope is that every piece carries not just function, but also a little comfort and story into your home.
